The so-much-more-than a circus show coming to Kingston-Upon-Thames this weekend! See parkour, pole dancing, theatre, dance and more under the circus big top, along with all your favourite circus acts.

Workshops 11am-9pm:

Puppet making, BMX and trick cycle (bring your preferred mode of wheel - bike/skate/scooter etc), unicycle, parkour, trapeze, acrobatics, capoeira, juggling, stilt walking, set decoration...all FREE. See below for specific times.

SUNDAY 11th JULY 

Rehearsals start at 2pm.

SHOWTIME

7pm   Bring a picnic and enjoy some river tales whilst eating al fresco with the circus. Marvel at the river world created by artists on the Fairfield.

8pm   Enter the big top and enjoy our circus show - The River and its People.

Dusk   Fire show finale.

ACROBATICS workshops: Friday 6-7pm and Saturday 1-2pm, 3.30-4.30pm.

ALICE ALLART is a highly talented trick cycle performer. She began her circus training in Boulogne, went onto Arc-En-Cirque, a professional circus school in Chambery, and is just about to complete a degree at The Circus Space in London. Drawing on her passions for sculpture, literature and visual arts, Alice creates beautiful and thoughtful acts on trick cycle, and also performs slack rope.

Alice will be creating an act for Picnic with the Circus on the Saturday afternoon, so if you can ride a unicycle, perform daring BMX stunts or anything else involving wheels, come to Kingston Fairfield on the Saturday afternoon 4.30-6pm and be a part of a new and exciting mix of graceful elegant trick cycle and fast and furious tricks on other cycles. This promises to be a stunning act, so make sure you bring your bike and be a part of it. Suitable for ages 8+

ATELIER EAST will be leading a "Sculpture with the Circus" workshop on Sunday 10am-6pm. Help create the scenery for the night ahead. Come and make beautiful scupltures out of recycled coloured plastic materials. Giant sculptures will be built throughout the day and create the backdrop for the evening show. www.atelier-east.co.uk. 

AVANT GARDENING For Kingston Summer Art Season 2010 the Stanley Picker Gallery has invited Avant Gardening to work with their own local community on a range of participatory activities involving art, gardening and food that will map out the suburban location of the Gallery for all visitors. An extended programme of activities will culminate in a week of special events and workshops for local residents of all ages and interests to discover the Gallery and enjoy what it has to offer.

Over the course of the IYAF week of events Artist and Avant Gardener Polly Brannan will create various mappings exploring the main route from Kingston Train Station to the Stanley Picker Gallery. On route she will explore public spaces, wildlife and nature, communities and passer bys to create alternative mappings. The Fairfield is on this route, and Avant Gardening will be on site on Saturday 10th July to share their work with us. Avant Gardening events and workshops so far include: Wildlife Mapping Walk and Workshop, Cocoanut Pub Quiz, a Market Intervention, Seed Booming, Hanging Baskets Workshop and a Walk Looking at the History of the Site.

BREAKDANCE with Lithuanian champions on Saturday, then watch them in awe when they perform in the tented show on Sunday at 8pm. They also guest teach at Vital Signz Dance in Kingston. Saturday workshop suitable for ages 10+, 3pm. Leads to performance in the show. Regular classes on Wednesday nights at 7.15pm, Kingston College.

CAPOEIRA workshops on Friday 7-8pm and on Saturday 12-1pm.

CIRCUS SUBURBIA AERIALISTS will be teaching workshops in trapeze and rope. Suitable for ages 8+. Workshop only.

ELAINE FROM POLEMINX will be teaching a taster pole dancing class on Saturday afternoon, 4.30-5.30pm. 6 spaces available. Contemporary pole dance is a challenging skill combining elegance, strength, stamina and co-ordination, and is increasingly taken up by people of all backgrounds as a fun fitness alternative to the gym. Poleminx have been teaching pole dancing in Surrey since 2005 in small friendly classes catering for complete beginners to advanced dancers.

 

 

EMERGENCY EXIT ARTS will be providing your fabulous dining entertainment. Watch out the pirates don't steal your strawberries as they distract you with tales of the Thames.

 

HAM YOUTH CLUB PARKOUR Two of the freerunning teachers from Ham Youth Club will be running a workshop on Saturday morning at 11am, then putting on a spectacular display of daring stunts in the tented show on Sunday. We are extremely lucky to be able to watch Ash from Storm Freerun and Frankie from Freerunning TV perform with the young people from Ham. Come and see what freerunning is all about. Suitable from age 11+.

JESSICA KAY, puppet-maker extraordinaire, will be making the three salmon of Kingston throughout the weekend and you can help her! Jessica is extremely talented and recently made a giant buckaroo for the last Seething event.

 

JUGGLING workshops: Friday 4-5pm and 7-8pm. Saturday 12-1.30pm, 2.30-3.30pm and 6-7pm. Suitable for all ages, opportunity to perform skills in the Sunday show at 8pm. Taught by Jon Udry, and Bruce and Josh from Swamp Circus.

 

LORD SCROLEY will be telling you tall tales at picnic time and it's up to you to decide how tall those tales are. Take a look at his Seething kingdom to get a taste of what you're in for.

NIAMH O'REILLY is not only an extremely talented circus artist, in her first year at The Circus Space degree, but she also plays the most beautiful acoustic sets, which you can hear from 7pm on Sunday 11th during the picnic. Niamh is teaching the acrobatics workshop on Saturday at 1pm.

 

SINGERS AND SONGS will be singing two beautiful river numbers in the River and its People show in the big top at 8pm. Elaine Hallam, who has played leading roles in many West End shows, teaches classes to develop individual voices in the Market House in Kingston, and has gathered a group of beautiful voices to perform on Sunday 11th July. Come and hear them sing, then if you would like Elaine to help you perfect your voice, ask her about her Autumn term classes. You can read more about the classes at www.singersandsongs.com.

SPIRIT HOOP CAKE   Try your hand at hula hoop with Janine on Friday evening. She'll be teaching some moves between 4.30 and 6pm for you to perform in the show on Sunday. Up to 30 spaces - sign up at mail@circussuburbia.co.uk, or on site before the session, to guarantee a place. Suitable for all ages.

 
 
ST MARY'S UNIVERSITY students will be leading workshops in costume and mask making. They will also be bringing the amazing puppets which they made for Ham House's 400th birthday celebrations earlier this year.
