In March 2010, Katie Hardwick & Jon Udry set up Circus Suburbia as a social enterprise, to offer young people in the suburbs of South West London the chance to learn the skills the pair had learned as children themselves...Jon in Cornwall as a kid who went from magic tricks to become the young juggler of the year; and Katie as a gymnast who fell in love with the flying trapeze at Glastonbury and joined the Circus Space youth programme (now the National Centre for Circus Arts). In Surbiton, the Circus Suburbia Friday Night Youth Circus was born with the help of a grant from Sport England.
Katie & Jon met in Falmouth in 2006, where Katie was studying English at the university and they both worked in the Swamp Circus Theatre summer show. On moving to London just as the financial crisis hit, Circus Suburbia was intended to create work for young and emerging circus artists which the pair met through training, and the social enterprise met Creative Youth, a charity who support young artists.
After building up a wealth of experience, knowledge and contacts (or rather friends) over the past few years, Katie and Jon now work with the UK's top circus and variety performers, both within South West London and throughout the globe. They deliver outstanding entertainment from warm family shows to luxury circus acts, and everything in between.
Circus Suburbia specialises in circus workshops for young people, working with the Rose Theatre Kingston, International Youth Arts Festival and Feltham Arts on a regular basis.
